What are MailWall Hosted Mailbox (POP3 and IMAP4) Functions?

PRODUCT NOTE: Hosted mailboxes may have undesirable and unpredictable effects on a domain with Active Directory synchronisation enabled. It is not recommended or supported to use these features together.

Understanding Hosted Mailboxes

  • MailWall can be configured to manage email addresses for a domain name and provide storage for customer mailboxes. Mailboxes are made available via compatible POP3 and IMAP4 email clients such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird and Microsoft Entourage.
  • Hosted mailboxes can remove the requirement for an email server to be located on the customer's premises as their email clients will directly connect MailWall over the Internet.
  • In addition, hosted mailboxes are compatible with many mobile email devices and platforms.
  • As standard, MailWall supports hosted mailboxes whereby email is accepted for pre-configured email addresses and delivered to associated mailboxes.
  • The alternative to hosted mailboxes is an SMTP feed. If you are unsure which option is best for you, please contact a MailWall professional for assistance.
  • By default, all hosted email domains will have the following undeletable email addresses pre-configured: info@domain.tld, postmaster@domain.tld, abuse@domain.tld. These email addresses will be associated with the default mailbox. This can be changed via the forwarding options on MailManager.
