What is the Difference between POP and IMAP?

POP

  • Downloads all your email from 'Inbox' folder to your email client and depending on your email client settings it leaves a copy of the messages on server side or removes them completely from server side.

IMAP

  • It synchornizes your local mail folders with mail folders on server side. Whenever you delete an email in any of those places it will be deleted in both places.
  • Below is a image of how POP and IMAP work. It is all down to preference in how you recieve your email but many users now prefer IMAP because they like to recieve their email on multiple different devices.
